The Cini family of Zebbug in northern Gozo traditionally harvest salt on salt pans which have been in continuous use since Phoenician times. The pans have been owned by the family for hundreds of years. Now a new generation are taking over responsibility for salt production and as they look to the future they explore the challenges, such as climate change, and the new possibilities, such as renewed interest in old traditional techniques and tourism.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
If places could speak this would have a few mighty tales. The old Strait Street in the heart of Valletta is full of closed dance halls, bars and brothels. This was where sailors and servicemen from the English and US Navies came to spend their money and have a bon time. The bars, the old band stages and the balconies where perfumed ladies proffered remain covered in a fine layer of dust. This fabulous piece of street art captures the sense of those heady days.
