A place we love to visit from time to time, the Canteen at the Royal Festival Hall. The food is wonderful, either glorious breakfasts on wintry mornings when the wind scuds along the Thames and people hurry quickly down the embankment wrapped in scarfs and bulky overcoats, you sit in the warm glow of the Canteen and watch all this sipping something strong and dark and caffeinated. The lunches are classic honest English cuisine, pies with broad beans and gravy, hearty mash and lamb stews, fish and chips, cooked super well and served with care, all at unpretentious prices. A hidden gem right in the heart of the city. Needless to say we love it and are often found there.
